Holiday-loving Kenyans will have to wait a little longer for their first public holiday of the year.
For the better part of yesterday, a circular had been doing rounds on social media with news that Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i had declared January 30 a public holiday.
The circular states that the CS has granted Kenyans the opportunity to attend the planned ‘swearing-in’ ceremony of NASA principles Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka, which is to take place on the 30th of January, at the Uhuru park grounds as announced by the coalition’s strategists.
After causing quite the buzz on social media, CS Matiang’i was forced to come out dismissing the circular as fake. He advised members of the public to ignore the circular’s contents.
“PUBLIC NOTICE: The Public is advised to disregard the contents of this document that is being circulated on social media. It is FAKE,” tweeted Matiang’i.
