A student at the University of Nairobi died after over the weekend after he tragically fell while sliding down a staircase railing in a hostel.

Kevin Kimuger Chirchir, 22, of Upper Kabete Campus, is said to have lost his balance and banged his forehead on the floor.

According to the Standard, the third year Bachelor of Science student had just returned to the hostel at around 8pm Saturday.

“I had met Chirchir at Ndumbuini trading centre near the campus earlier. He asked me to accompany him for a drink at a local pub before we came back to the hostel,” said Mr Monda, the deceased’s classmate.

“He fell from the second floor of the hostel. My efforts to save him were futile as he was bleeding profusely.”

Monda said that Chirchir was a little drunk at the time of the incident.

“The last thing he said to me was he was feeling sleepy and wanted to go to bed in his room in Tana C Hostel,” Monda said.

Dagoretti OCPD Rashid Mohammed said the student succumbed to the injuries on the way to hospital.
