Armed robbers on Tuesday robbed voter verification agents in Kariobangi, Nairobi.

The two gunmen made away with mobile phones, money and an IEBC power bank from agents, Meline Onundo, Ivor Mengo, Hannah Wanja and Elvis Ngure.

The gunmen pretended to be voters seeking verification of their registration details before pulling out their guns at the registration center in Nairobi River Primary School.

Confirming the incident, Buruburu police commander Geoffrey Mayek said laptops and BVR kits were not stolen or tampered with.

“It was a regular robbery – the thugs wanted money and valuables. They only stole phones and a handbag from a woman. That cannot stop the exercise,” said Mayek.

He added that no arrests had been made but “We have written to Safaricom for notifications when other SIM cards are used on the stolen phones.”
