The term ‘Boda boda’ has been included in the latest edition of Oxford Dictionary.

The authority in the English language defines it as ”A type of motocycle or bicycle with a space for a passenger or for carrying goods, often used as a taxi.”

The word is also in some versions of Collins and Macmillan dictionaries.

‘Boda boda’ has its roots in the border town of Busia, Kenya. It is actually belived to have been derived from the English word ‘border’, as in ‘border border’. Apparently, motorcycles and bicycles were the cheapest mode of transport between Kenya and Uganda. They also provide some relief from authorities since no paper work is required as opposed to cars.
