President Uhuru Kenyatta is the latest high-profile support to show his support for the ailing event aficionado Kevin Ombajo, popularly known as Big Kev.
Word on the street is that the Head of State quietly paid Big Kev a visit over the weekend at Nairobi Hospital.
The Star reports that insiders who were in the hospital ward with the President and Big Kev said the two had a chat that ended with Uhuru wishing him well.
Uhuru’s visit comes days after singer Kidum honored Big Kev’s wish to visit him before his surgery.
Big Kev, the founder of Tru Blaq Events that has over the years organised major concerts in Kenya, is currently recovering from his latest brain surgery. He has undergone 13 surgeries one of which cost him his eyesight late last year.
The Kenyan entertainment fraternity is gearing up for a Sh10,000 per-attendant dinner on Friday night to raise funds for Big Kev’s hospital bills.
Mr Martin Mulwa, an events organiser and general manager of the Events Managers’ Association of Kenya where Big Kev is the chairman, said that at least 500 people are expected to attend the dinner.
“We convinced the family that we wanted to do it,” said Mr Mulwa.
“We are doing this as an industry. And we’ve received a lot of support from the public. On the night, we shall release an M-Pesa paybill number where anybody can donate from as little as Sh10 to whatever amount they would want to donate to the cause,” Mr Mulwa said.
He added that the minimum target is Sh 20 Million.
