Reports have it that Citizen TV has suspended several leading Swahili news anchors and reporters for involving themselves in corruption.
Ghafla is reporting that Swaleh Mdoe, Mwanahamisi Hamadi, Kimeli Arap Kimeli, Yusuf Ali, Shisia Wasilwa among others have been suspended for 10 days pending investigations into alleged high level corruption.
Apparently, the journalists received money from a top politician to kill a negative story about him during the Kajiado by-elections.
Robert Alai goes further to reveal that the said top politician is none other than Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko.
Swaleh Mdoe and Mwanahamisi Hamadi are senior Swahili editors at Citizen TV, effectively in charge of what airs at 7pm. They reportedly killed the story of Sonko’s altercation in Kajiado, after it had already ran in the highlights.
A Facebook source has it that the story was of Sonko being attacked and chased by a group of voters in Kajiado over bribery claims. The Nairobi senator has since denied those allegations.
Swaleh Mdoe and his fellow list of shame comrades were handed their suspension letters by Royal Media Chief Operating Officer Farida Karoney, and if investigations find them guilty, they’ll effectively lose their jobs at the SK Macharia owned stations.
Weekend news readers Kanze Dena and Lulu Hassan will meanwhile take the Nipashe lead.
