When Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru announced that over 700,000 jobs were created by the government last year, the news was met with a lot of rumblings and uproar from the many jobless youths in the country. Following the uproar, one of Kenya’s business mogul, Chris Kirubi, seized the opportunity to offer some much needed advice to Kenyan youths. Being one of the most successful and prominent personalities in the country, it’s admirable to see him using his vast experience to motivate the youth.
Here’s what he had to say:
“Yesterday when Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru announced that 700,000 new jobs were created last year, it caused an uproar especially with the many young unemployed people.
However, I would like to say this… Governments anywhere in the world create more of opportunities than jobs. You cannot afford to sit back and wait for jobs to given to you. Identify the opportunities and get hold of them. I am impressed by those in the diaspora who identified opportunities and managed to create great livelihoods for themselves and their families. It’s all about what we are willing to do with the opportunities and resources that we have been given. If you are too ‘blinded’ by your current state and are waiting to be spoon fed, then woe unto you. Be pro-active and rightfully demand and get what is yours.
Sieze the opportunity and make it work for you.”
