Veteran hip hop, reggae and dancehall artist Nazizi Hirji is planning a comeback. The First Lady of rap, as she was popularly known made her debut as the first female hip hop artist in Kenya at age 16 with the song Sawa Tu.
Nazizi went on to form music group Necessary Noize with Wyre and rapper Bamzigi in 2000, although Bamzigi left due to label disputes. The group’s popularity grew steadily in the East African region working with Ugandan artists under the name East African Bashment Crew.
Speaking to Nairobi News Nazizi reassured fans of bigger things this year.
I need to reassure my Nairobi fans first that I’m still here before rolling out a countrywide project mid this year,” she said.
Nazizi also took the time to talk about Necessary Noize who have since separated to work on solo projects.
We released a song last year as a teaser, bigger things will be released by Necessary Noize as soon as possible,” she added.
