A Nairobi court will today visit Westgate Shopping mall to survey the scene of the September 2013 terror attack. This is according to a directive issued by Nairobi acting Chief magistrate Daniel Ochenja, who is hearing a case against four men facing charges in relation to the attack.
The head of security at the mall, Mr. Paul Muladi had given evidence on the second day of the trial which triggered Prosecuting counsel, Mungai Warui to request a visit to the mall.
On Friday, Administration Police Officer, Ali Miraji, had given his testimony where he said that he shot one of the attackers on the leg as he tried to enter the first floor of the mall through an escalator. He also said that he had confused two other attackers with GSU officers. “I confused them with officers from Recce Company from the GSU, I asked them through hand signal what was going on before they turned their guns towards me after spotting me,” said the officer. He was however not shot as he quickly took cover.
