University Of Nairobi is being sued over its decision to have a student repeat a whole year of her engineering course due to poor examination results.

Jacinta Akinyi, an engineering student says the university’s mode of administering and releasing the examination results is less than transparent and not accurate.

Through her lawyer William Arusai, she says the university has failed to subject her to a fair administrative action resulting in her being asked to repeat the course.

“Every effort to verify the results have been met with total silence, opaqueness, deliberate avoidance and generally a culture of unaccountability, which does not inspire confidence in the whole process,” reads her statement.

She says an urgent interrogation and resolution of the case will determine whether she will proceed to the fourth year of her studies or whether the acts or omissions by the university were regular, legal and within the law.

Justice Mumbi Ngugi directed that the dean of the school of engineering be personally served with the documents and they appear in court on November 26 for hearing.
