Kenyatta University on Friday broke ground for the Sh3.5 billion phase one of their Uni-City project.
The new ‘city’ will be constructed parallel to Thika Superhighway, at the University’s main campus.
KU chancellor Benson Wairegi presided over the ground breaking ceremony for phase one of the project. Among the facilities to be constructed in the Sh3.5 billion first phase are:
– Hyper market
– Retail shops
– Food courts
– Auto care centre and petrol station
– Car park
– Banks/ATMs
National Oil, Uchumi Supermarket and Galitos are some of the confirmed tenants.
Phase two of the uni-city project entails construction of a mega conference centre, while phase three entails construction of an office block, apartments and a hotel.
Here is the cost breakdown of the project.
Design and Structural works – Sh 400 million
Supermarket – Sh 200 million
Conference centre – Sh 500 milllion
Hotel – Sh 500 million
Office block – Sh 400 million
Departmental stores – Sh 300 million
Parking area – Sh 625 million
Road infrastructure – Sh 585 million
Total – Sh 3,510,000,000
