The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has started investigating how former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i acquired his wealth.
The anti-corruption agency has written to the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei seeking certified information on his declared wealth.
In a letter dated February 27, EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak asked to be availed with the wealth declaration forms that Matiang’i submitted when he was sworn in as CS in 2013.
“Pursuant to Section 30(1) (4) (b) of the Public Officers Ethics Act, the commission wishes to request for certified copies of Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities forms for years 2012 to 2022, including the initial and final declarations,” the letter reads in part.
Twalib Mbarak confirmed the commission was conducting investigations on Dr Matiang’i.
“The Commission is carrying out investigations involving Dr. Fred Matiang’i, former Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government,” the letter reads.
“Our officers Mr. Abdul Low and Mr. Paul Mugwe will be available to collect the documents.”
The move comes as it emerged that Fred Matiang’i had since left the country amid separate investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation over an alleged fake police raid at his Karen home.
In a letter addressed to the DCI, the State Department for citizen services revealed that Matiang’i left the country a week before he was summoned.
“The subject departed on February 19, 2023, through JKIA on KLM flight number KL566,” reads the letter dated February 28, 2023.
Matiang’i had been summoned to appear before the DCI last Friday.

Former Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i is OUT of the country. He is not coming back any soon. The govt can now focus on other things. Political witch-hunt does not pay unless William Ruto pretends to be a Christian. He should let bygones be bygones.
