A senior police officer who spoke to The Star newspaper on Monday, blamed the National Intelligence Service for doing some pretty shoddy job identifying threats.The officer who preferred to remain anonymous, said that the information they provide them is far too vague for any action to be taken.
“If you are told that there are people planning attacks in Nairobi in two days, and there are no specific details of where or even who, where do you start from in a city that has more than four million people? The intelligence being gathered is wanting,” he said.
Apparently, NIS had circulated a brief last week, warning of possible attacks in several areas, including shopping malls.
Reportedly, military intelligence is now more helpful to the Anti Terrorism Police than the NIS.
