Mount Kenya University has joined the likes of Daystar and Strathmore Universities in enforcing a strict dress code for learners.
On Wednesday, the private higher learning institution with campuses in major towns across Kenya circulated a memo detailing a set of dress code rules that students should adhere to.
Top of the list, as usual, MKU students are not allowed to wear clothes or pants revealing their “private body parts”.
“Persons dressed in clothes/pants revealing private body parts will be denied access into the University premises and will be required to go back and dress decently,” the notice states.
It further stipulates that learners should not wear caps or hats during lectures, in the library, laboratory or when addressing members of staff.
The varsity’s Dean of students Martin Muiruri also ‘asked’ male students to have well-groomed hair at all times.
As for the ladies, see-through clothes, bare-backs, mini-skirts, crop-tops(tumbo-cut), and low cleavage attire should not be seen anywhere within the school’s premises.
Students who do not comply with the dress code will be sent home to change, at least until the third warning after which the school will take disciplinary measures.
“Warning will be given in case of breach of the dressing code. After a third warning the student will be referred to a disciplinary committee,” stated the Dean of students.
