As tributes continue to pour in for Chris Kantai, Norway-based Kenyan femcee Stella Mwangi has expressed her regret at not reaching out to the veteran rapper the last time she was in the country.
Stella alias STL and the late Chris to the Kantada go way back; the latter is credited with introducing the former into the Kenyan rap scene back in 2005.
Having been quite close, it has taken STL one day to find the strength and the words to publicly mourn the Huu Ni Nani G hitmaker who succumbed to breathing complications on Wednesday.
“This one hit me hard… I been mourning. We come from far G. Fuck this sh*t! This wasn’t the way it was supposed to end,” wrote STL in a tribute post on Insta.
She revealed that they had agreed to create uplifting music.
Stella also recalled how Kantai believed in her when everybody else wasn’t thinking she would make it the rap game.
“I remember early 2005, when I stepped in the Kenyan music scene. Nobody wanted to give me a shot, they said I wouldn’t make it cos I didn’t know Swahili sheng. You showed me love from the first moment, you told me; “stick to ur style! U not the one to change,- it’s THEM”. Kantai, you beautiful soul❤️ We had wonderful conversations about life, God & music,” STL wrote.
She also described working with Kantai on the song ‘Happy’ as “pure joy”. They wrote the song, recorded it and shot a video in just two days.
“U inspired me so much, I had memorized ur whole ‘Happy’ verse in like 10min, it cracked u up during the video shoot ?.”
A heartbroken Stella further admitted that she feels bad for not reaching out to Kantai when she was in the country last November.
“I feel so bad that I didn’t reach out to u last I was in Kenya, it all went so fast..I thought we had time!?? Even tho it’s a heartache, I can feel your spirit now, your truly Happy?? I pray for your family with love wishing them peace. #RestInParadise?”
