New Twist in Tob Cohen Murder Trial as Worker Reveals What He Saw Before Businessman’s Death

June 11, 2026

More details emerged in court Tuesday as prosecutors described the events related to the 2019 death of Dutch businessman Tob Cohen. They presented the account in the murder case against Sarah Wairimu Kamotho.

A worker at Cohen’s residence testified that July 19, 2019, was the last day he saw Cohen alive. He told the court that when he returned several days later, Cohen was missing. The witness said Sarah allegedly instructed him to tell others that Cohen had traveled to Thailand for medical treatment if anyone asked.

The worker also told the court that Cohen had confided in him days before his death. According to his testimony, Cohen alleged that Sarah had injured his face during a domestic dispute.

Prosecutors then revisited earlier evidence. The same witness said that during a lunch break, while he walked around the property, he noticed three mounds on top of a concrete slab that covered the septic tank. He told the court he had not seen the mounds in the days before he left, and he added that he later saw a worker clearing vegetation and placing it on the cement slab.

Defense counsel Pravin Bowry represented Sarah, who sat quietly as witnesses recounted the days leading up to Cohen’s death.

The witness told the court that in his statement he had said that, by Monday afternoon, the areas had already been covered by the heaps. He said the crew carried out cleaning activities, with PW1 doing cleaning and PW2 inside the house. He added that another man worked on the garden in a specific location.

“In my statement I said in the afternoon they were already covered up by the heaps because they were doing cleaning on Monday. PW1 was doing cleaning, and PW2 was in the house…there was another guy that was the one who was working on the garden specific location,” the witness testified.

The court also heard that Cohen had written to lawyer Judy Thongori, instructing her to file defamation and criminal liability proceedings against Sarah. Prosecutors said Cohen believed Sarah had spread false claims to police and others about him.

The court adjourned to June 15, 2026.
