A mother has testified in Court in a case where a Priest is alleged to have defiled the woman’s 11-year-old daughter.
Appearing before a Kitale Court last week, the woman recalled how she wailed helplessly when she saw her 11-year-old daughter locked in a car with Fr Bernard Magina Masinde of Kipsaina Parish in Trans Nzoia County.
The priest is charged with attempted defilement and an alternative count of caressing a minor’s genitals.
He allegedly committed the offence on the 15th of this month at Kipsaina trading centre in Cherangany Sub-county.
The minor’s mother told the court that on the said day at around 7 pm, she sent her daughter to Kipsaina centre to buy kerosene but the girl took too long to return home.
She then decided to go to the centre to find out what had happened to her only to spot her daughter – a church dancer, in a parked vehicle together with the priest.
“On closer scrutiny, I spotted the priest who was half naked and my daughter,” she told the court.
She said she immediately raised an alarm alerting the public who apprehended the priest and took him to the nearest police station.
The priest denied the charges and is out on bond of Sh300, 000 and a surety of similar amount awaiting further hearing of the case on October 1.
