A prison warder based at Nyandarua prisons has been arrested over the infamous video that captured a naked Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri being assaulted by a group of men.
The prison warder, identified as Dennis Mugambi, was arrested at the Wang’uru Police Station in Mwea where he had gone to make a traffic report on an accident he was involved in on Wednesday night.
The suspect was identified by an officer at the station. He was wearing the same clothes he had on during the filming of the viral video.
A scuffle is said to have ensued at the police post as the prison warder attempted to flee. But he was subdued and arrested for questioning.
Kirinyaga County Commissioner Mohamed Birik said the man was transferred to Thika Police Station for interrogation.
“It is true. A man has been arrested in Mwea over the said video. He has been handed over to the investigating team,” Mr Birik said.
The Kirinyaga Deupty on Thursday positively identified Mr Mugambi as one the fraudsters who set him up.
Thika DCIO Linus Owago said the deputy governor had confirmed to the police that the prison warden indeed came to the room where the video was being recorded.
The DCIO said the warden is in their custody and they are closely following his accomplices including Elizabeth Njuguna, the woman captured with Ndambiri in the video.
Ruiru OCPD James Ng’etich confirmed that the woman in the video and the man claiming to be her husband are facing a similar case where they were charged with robbery with violence.
It is alleged that the woman poses to prominent men as a property seller and once the victim agrees to view the property, they are terrorised, stripped naked and forced to agree to an illicit relationship with her.
