Mudavadi Launches Magharibi Movement to Rally Western Kenya Behind Ruto for 2027

August 17, 2026

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has unveiled the Magharibi Movement, a political initiative designed to rally Western Kenya voters behind President William Ruto’s 2027 reelection campaign.

In a statement on Saturday, August 15, Mudavadi explained that the movement brings together political and community figures from Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga, and Trans Nzoia counties to strengthen the region’s political weight.

According to the Prime Cabinet Secretary, the group will run grassroots campaigns to build support for President Ruto while ensuring Western Kenya retains a seat at the government table in 2027.

“Western Kenya’s future cannot be defined by elections every five years. It must be built every day through stronger representation, development, and opportunities that improve people’s lives,” Mudavadi stated.

“With that bigger picture in mind, I launched the Magharibi Movement, bringing together political and community leaders from Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga and Trans Nzoia to give our people a stronger platform to shape the region’s future.”

The movement kicked off its grassroots campaign on Saturday in Kakamega County, bringing together delegates from across 12 sub-counties.

Mudavadi noted that the initiative will construct a broader network at the local level to champion Ruto’s reelection while advancing the region’s economic and political interests.

Organizers plan to expand the movement from Kakamega into neighboring Western Kenya counties as they set up grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 general election.

The Cabinet Secretary for Diaspora and Foreign Affairs emphasized that political clout relies on active participation, urging residents to register to vote, show up at the polls, and make their numbers count.

This political push comes as leaders across the country accelerate efforts to forge alliances and secure support bases ahead of the 2027 contest.
