Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua told Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to stay in President William Ruto’s camp and handle his political issues there.
Gachagua delivered the message on Sunday, August 9, 2026, as he criticized Kindiki’s conduct toward him during the period they served together in the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“So wewe hata kama umepata matatizo huko kwa Ruto, ukae huko. Hapana ita mimi ndugu yako,” Gachagua said.
He then added a personal analogy to make his point.
“Kwa sababu… hata ukiwa ndugu ya mtu, unaweza muua uchukue bibi yake? Unasema mtu ni ndugu yako na umemuua ndio uchukue bibi yake?” he said.
Gachagua challenged Kindiki’s claim that he had respected him when he served as Deputy President.
“Siku alikuwa ofisi nilimheshimu. Tulikosana tu alipotoka akaniambia nitoke. Sasa Rigathi alitoka si wewe ulimtoa? Sasa nikuulize wewe Kindiki… wewe uliniheshimu namna gani?” he said.
He then revisited his campaign against illicit alcohol and argued that Kindiki weakened the effort while he served as Interior Cabinet Secretary.
“Kindiki ndio aliitwa na Ruto akiwa minister wa Interior. Akaambiwa hii vita Rigathi anafanya ya pombe staki mambo yake,” Gachagua said.
He accused Kindiki of sabotaging the crackdown on illicit alcohol.
“It is Kindiki who alisabotage hiyo vita dhidi ya pombe haramu. So unasema uliniheshimu namna gani na kazi nilifanya ya kusaidia watu wetu… wewe ndio ulisabotage?” he said.
Gachagua said illicit alcohol remained a major problem in the region, adding that hundreds of young people had died.
“Wewe ulitumiwa na Ruto kurudisha pombe kuua watu wetu. Na alikuwa tu Ruto hataki hii jamii yetu hapa,” he said.
He also referenced reports that he said kept him up at night.
“Mchungaji umesema vizuri, you have buried over 300. Si ile ripoti mimi napata… mimi saa ingine silali. Hii watoto wetu wote vijana wamekwisha,” Gachagua said.
He further mentioned another illicit drink that he said could cause death when several people consumed it together.
“Kwanza kuna ingine …Kamoja tu ya 50 shillings, watu watatu, wakimeza, chini,” he said.
