In a statement issued on Friday, August 15, the committee announced that it had structured its operations and elected Javas Bigambo as Vice Chair. The members appreciated the two principals for the task and promised the public a transparent process.
“The Committee has organized its operations and has selected Javas Bigambo as the Vice Chair. As a Committee, we thank the two principals for bestowing their trust in the members, as we are all honored to announce the commencement of our first report as per our ToR. We therefore would like to update the public on the rollout of the Committee’s work as we start our longer deliberations based on our Terms of Reference,” the statement read.
The committee further indicated that it would engage a wide cross-section of stakeholders and committed to conducting extensive consultations with the public and other interested stakeholders in order to achieve extensive implementation of its mandate.
“Appreciating the guidance and patriotic spirit of His Excellency President William Ruto and The Right Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, the committee invites members of the public and various stakeholders in the various forums in the days ahead as we roll out,” the statement added.
The committee comprises Senator Agnes Zani as Chairperson and Javas Bigambo as Vice Chair. The other members are Fatuma Ibrahim, Gabriel Oguda, and Kevin Kiarie.
Formed under a deal between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the group is mandated to follow up on the recommendations of the NADCO report and move forward the broader ten-point agenda.
Its terms of reference cover a wide range of responsibilities that entail formulating new policies, reviewing those that are already in existence, recommending legislative and administrative measures, and monitoring progress of implementation on areas of priority.
The committee will also give priority to strengthening leadership and integrity, defending constitutional rights such as the right to peaceful assembly, dealing with the national debt, intensifying the war on corruption, containing wastage of public resources, and entrenching constitutional values.
