Meru police have arrested six suspects believed to be behind the July 7 arson attack and looting spree targeting several businesses in the town.
Officers apprehended Ian Mugambi, Abdulatif Murithi, and Teddy Kaimenyi after CCTV footage showed them looting and setting fire to Magunas Supermarket. The same footage captured them breaking into and stealing from Seven Eleven Lounge and Selelite Supermarket.
During the arrest, officers recovered a dark green motorbike with the registration number KMGN 839F, suspected to have been used in the crimes.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with authorities promising swift arraignment and increased efforts to pursue any potential accomplices.
In another raid within the Majengo area, Imenti North law enforcers arrested Jeff Mugambi, Anesto Abdalla Kariuki, and Brian Gitonga. CCTV cameras had captured the three taking advantage of Selenite Supermarket in the coordinated raids.
Police have reiterated their resolve to restore order and bring to book all the criminals. Residents and businesspeople have been called upon to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior as the crackdown gains momentum.
