The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has opened a probe into an incident where AFC Leopards coach Patrick Aussems insulted a journalist.
The 57-year-old Belgian coach called a journalist stupid in his post-match comments on Sunday after AFC Leopards’ match against Nzoia Sugar in Bungoma.
The journalist had asked coach Aussems why he did not leave the field of play after he was red-carded against Nzoia. However, it was Leopards goalkeeping coach Lawrence Webo who had been sent to the stands.
“You are stupid my friend because it’s Webo who received the red card not me. You are stupid. In fact, let me see your name… please do not ask me any other questions,” the coach said.
A video of the incident has since been shared widely on social media, drawing backlash against the coach.
This prompted the FKF to issue a statement saying investigations are ongoing.
“The disciplinary committee is on the matter because it is in the public domain. Nobody has officially launched a complaint, but Aussems is a Premier League coach and he shouldn’t have conducted himself that way even if the game was tense. The issue is being handled,” said FKF Head of Communications Pharis Kimaru.
FKF Chief Executive Barry Otieno added: “We will also give him an opportunity to explain his side of the story.”
