A man was on Wednesday stabbed to death in a brawl at Norkopir Village Pub in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
Jibril Abdullahi, a 26-year-old final-year media student, was at the pub with friends in the evening, when an alleged love rival confronted him.
The two argued before the middle-aged man drew a knife and stabbed Jibril. The suspect managed to escape from members of the public who were baying for his blood.
Jibril was rushed to Kitengela sub-county hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
An eyewitness who spoke to Nation said the assailant confronted Jibril over a waitress who works at the same pub.
“The assailant was heard claiming the student had an affair with his girlfriend. He warned him before a confrontation ensued and he stabbed him once, inside the pub. The assailant was armed with a knife and a sword,” said an eyewitness.
Detectives who visited the scene recovered a knife which the unknown man is suspected to have used.
“The OCS Kitengela and DCI personnel in Kitengela rushed to the hospital. The body of the deceased had a single stab wound on the back right-hand side,” read part of the police OB 103/09/11/2022.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the student was in a love relationship with the pub attendant of Ethiopian descent.
A mobile phone belonging to the deceased which was recovered by detectives indicated he was in constant communication with the waitress.
Police suspect a love affair was the motive behind the murder.
