Police in Kasarani, Nairobi are investigating a murder case where a man bizarrely confessed that he killed a woman after she turned into a ghost.
The suspect, identified as 59-year-old Wangethi Chege, surrendered himself to cops at Kasarani Police Station on Tuesday. He is said to have told the cops to go and collect the body of the deceased woman who was yet to be identified as of Tuesday.
Kasarani area police boss Anthony Mbogo said when his officers went to the man’s house, they found the body.
The police chief said the man told them that he met the deceased at a local entertainment joint and then took her to his house.
“Alipokuja akasema walipatana eneo moja la burudani hapa Zimmerman,” Mbogo said.
(When the suspect came, he said they met at a bar here in Zimmerman).
Wangethi Chege told police that when they arrived at his house, the woman turned into a ghost. Fearing for his life, Chege said he stabbed the woman multiple times in the back and head.
“Alisema ule dada aligeuka akakuwa kama ghost, ama zimwi na likaanza kufanya ni kama linamkula, lakini sisi tuliona ni kama tu anajitetea,” the police boss said.
(The suspect said the woman turned into a ghost or some sort of monster that was trying to eat him, but we think he was just making up an excuse)
At the scene of the crime, detectives recovered two knives believed to have been used by the suspect. The body was moved to the City Mortuary as investigations continue.
Police said they plan to produce the suspect in court to ask for more days as they investigate the incident. Mbogo said among others, they will test his mental well-being.
