As the country continues to mourn the untimely demise of popular Kikuyu benga musician John DeMathew, reports have emerged that he once dated Murang’a County Women Representative Sabina Chege.
The rumors were particularly rife about two years ago when the musician featured Sabina Chege in his music video for the song ‘Njata Yakwa’ (My Star).
Although they never declared it publicly, the rumor has resurfaced after Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda sent a message of condolences to Sabina.
“Sincere condolences to the family, friends and fans of musician John Demathew whom I met at our #EmbraceInMuranga meeting and also danced to some of his music in the past. A great loss for Murang’a and Kenya.Rest in peace. Sabina Chege be comforted all of you. God Bless,” Lesuuda wrote on social media.
It is said that DeMathew and Sabina Chege parted ways before she got married to Gathitu Maina, the former Kenya Dairy Board boss after meeting him in 2012.
However, in her tribute message to the deceased musician, Sabina described him as a friend and kept her message short and simple.
“I have seen you grow as a person and in the music industry. Fare thee well my friend,” the woman rep wrote.
