A man is in police custody for allegedly killing his own son following a fight over maize at their home in Eshirembe village, Kakamega County.
76-year-old John Makhoha reportedly attacked his 36-year-old son Habil Amunze with a machete, accusing him of stealing six tins of his maize.
Area assistant chief Aggrey Maina said the suspect has in the past been accusing his son of stealing from him.
On Sunday, however, Mr Makhoha descended on his son with a panga, hacking him to death. The deceased is said to have been drunk when his father attacked him.
The body of the deceased was moved to the Kakamega County Referral hospital mortuary.
The suspect was detained pending arraignment. Investigations are ongoing.
