July 23, 2019

A Form Three student at Nyamwaga Mixed Secondary School in Rachuonyo East Sub-County, Homa Bay allegedly chopped off the arm of his schoolmate on Saturday.

The 16-year-old, Daily Nation reports, went into hiding after he allegedly cut the arm of a Form Two student whom he accused of being behind his suspension.

According to witnesses, the suspect attacked the victim when he was on his way from school at around 5 pm. Form 3 learner accused the form two student of reporting him to the school’s administration for misbehaving during studies leading to his suspension.

Confirming the incident, Rachuonyo East Sub-County Police Commander Charles Barasa said the victim’s arm was cut just below the elbow using a machete. The arm fell to the ground, he noted.

“The arm was cut when the victim tried to shield himself from the attack. We believe the suspect intended to cut the victim on the head [but] fortunately he (the victim) raised his arm to protect himself from the attack,” Barasa said.

He said on Monday that police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, “Though the suspect is a minor, he must tell police why he decided to cut the arm of his schoolmate.”

The injured student is currently admitted to Matata Nursing Hospital in Oyugis Town.
