A former convict has been arrested for allegedly killing his stepson in Sotik, Bomet County on Wednesday.

40-year-old David Chelule reportedly hacked the two-year-old minor to death with a machete at their home in Kaptilolwo Village.

According to unverified sources, the man suspected that the boy was born from an extramarital affair while he was in prison.

The minor’s mutilated body was found lying in a pool of blood by a neighbour who raised alarm. Irate members of the public descended on the suspect before police officers came to his rescue and arrested him.

The boy’s mother, aged 35, was not at home during the incident. The ex-con and his wife of 10 years had only one child, a 5-year old girl, before he was imprisoned.

Mr Chelule served five years at Kamiti Maximum Prison after he was found guilty of attempting to kill his brother’s son. He was released just two months ago.

The suspect’s neighbour said since his release, he had quarrelled with his wife on numerous occasions.

“He has frequently quarrelled his wife accusing her of infidelity. We did not know the differences over the child will degenerate into such an incident,” said the neighbour as quoted by Standard.

Sotik Sub-county Deputy Police Commander Francis Ng’ang’a said the suspect was detained at Sotik Police Station.
