A retired police officer has been charged with killing a child and injuring six others on 17th May in Nairobi.
The Court heard that the ex-officer, identified as Mativo, was trying to drive out of parking when he accidentally rammed into a school perimeter wall destroying it and running over a 9-year-old boy who was playing with others.
Six children aged between 6-13 years sustained fractures on their fingers and bruises on their bodies after being hit by debris. They were rushed to hospital for treatment and the body of the deceased taken to for post mortem. The scene was visited, secured and sketch plan drawn, the court was told.
The vehicle involved in the accident was also inspected and found to have no Pre-accidents defects.
The accused denied all charges. In its application for bond suspension for two weeks, the prosecution argued that some of the victims are still admitted and that the charges need to be amended.
The court, however, granted the accused cash bail of Sh 150,000 or a personal bond of Sh, 300,000.
The case will be mentioned on June 5.
