A man on Sunday met his tragic death after he was pushed off a speeding bus by a matatu tout attached to Embassava Sacco.

Justus Kilonzo, a 31-year-old carpenter at Gikomba Market, was heading home to Pipeline estate when a heated exchange with the tout broke out. This is after the passenger complained that he was not dropped at the stage where he had asked the tout to.

As tempers flared, the tout pushed Mr Kilonzo out of the moving vehicle causing his tragic and untimely death. The deceased reportedly hit head first on the tarmac before being run over the bus.

The bus driver stopped, and together with the tout, they tried to get Kilonzo back into the bus to rush him to Mama Lucy Hospital but the passengers protested.

“The passengers refused to allow them rush Justus to Mama Lucy because they would conceal the case,” Raphael Kilonzo, Justus’ brother told theStar.

“They [passengers] insisted that the conductor and driver call Red Cross ambulance to rush Justus to Kenyatta [National Hospital] because he was badly injured,” he added.

Kilonzo, who had sustained a serious skull fracture besides other injuries, was pronounced dead on arrival at KNH.

Raphael said his family is still shocked by the death of Justus who left behind a nine-year-old son and wife.

“I don’t even know how life will be for us and who will now take care of his family. He was a very hard working carpenter at Gikomba market,” said the bereaved brother.

Confirming the incident, Buruburu OCPD Rono Bunei said investigations were underway.

The incident comes three months after the High Court sentenced Roman Oduor, a matatu tout to 30 years in jail for pushing Abdalla Yusuf to his death from a moving bus for demanding his Sh10 balance.
