A woman from Masongo village in Kisii escaped death by a whisker after she was attacked by an angry mob for assaulting her stepdaughter by inserting a hot knife in her private parts.
24-year-old Winnie Kwamboka, who is also said to be pregnant, stabbed and burned her eight-year-old step-daughter in the private parts using a hot knife for allegedly stealing Sh50 to buy a snack.
The suspect committed the spine-chilling act over the weekend, tying the minor on a bed using a rope and torturing her as punishment for stealing.
The minor’s father who is a bodaboda operator in Kisii town was away when the incident happened.
Area Chief Wilter Nyaboke said the minor had spent two days with the wounds as her step-mother had locked her up in a room.
“Her father asked where she was having not seen her from the previous day,” said the administrator.
On realising what had happened, the father rushed the girl to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
According to the doctors, the girl had been stabbed several times using a hot knife but two stabs on the upper side of the thighs were more serious and required immediate attention.
A police report through OB28/17/02/2017 at the Kisii Central police station shows that the minor sustained burns on her thighs, buttocks and in her private parts.
The minor is still undergoing treatment and is in a stable condition.
Infuriated locals also descended on Winnie Kwamboka seriously injuring her. She was rescued by police officers who rushed to the scene and took her to hospital for treatment before presenting her in court.
Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Ezekiel Obina on Monday, Winnie Kwamboka did not take a plea as the court ordered her to undergo mental check-up.
She will be arraigned on Thursday for plea taking.
