January 30, 2019

Residents of Kalyet village in Elburgon, Nakuru County are still reeling from shock after a middle-aged man brutally killed his father over Sh100.

Eric Kibiwot, 30, is said to have picked a brawl with his father, 65-year-old Wilson Chepkicho Yegon, on Monday.

The suspect had demanded Sh200 owed to him but the elderly man could only afford Sh100 from his milk business.

Area Assistant Chief Mr Harun Koima, who confirmed the attack, said an infuriated Kibiwot then spent the Sh100 on alcohol before he returned home demanding the remaining Sh100.

“Mr Kibiwot went and used the money in drinking. He arrived home, at around 8 pm, while drunk and demanded for the balance of Sh100 from his father before a scuffle ensued. The son attacked his father after he said he did not have another Sh100,” said the administrator.

The suspect picked up an axe and hacked his father on the head, killing him on the spot.

Kibiwot fled into a nearby forest after committing the act but was later cornered by irate residents who lynched him.

Neighbours said the accused had on several occasions been involved in incidents that allegedly include beating up his parents.

Deputy County Commissioner Naftali Korir said that investigations are underway adding that the culprits behind the mob justice will be arrested.

The body of the 65-year-old man was moved to the Elburgon sub-county hospital mortuary while the son’s body was still at the scene by the time of going to press.
