Since President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga shook hands at Harambee House on March 9, 2018, everyone has been getting a handshake. In fact, the President is now shaking hands by default as evidenced by his lighthearted moment with a woman during the Solai Memorial Service of the 48 Solai Dam victims.

Even as emotions ran high when relatives and friends of the victims of the catastrophic Patel dam tragedy converged to pay their last respects on Wednesday, the Head of State was on hand to provide an amusing moment.

In a video that has gone viral online, President Uhuru was caught on cameras “forcing” a handshake on one of the attendees of the service at the AIC Church in Nakuru County.

The footage by NTV shows the unidentified woman walking to the altar with a green bag that she hands over to the priests.

As she walked back to her seat, and in the spirit of Building Bridges to a New Kenya, President Kenyatta once again led by example and casually shook her hand, catching her completely off guard. Her reaction said it all.

Guests who caught the President’s mischief burst into laughter even as Uhuru tried to play it cool like nothing ever happened.
