‘EggMonday’: Pupils in Thika Public Schools To Get Boiled Eggs Every Monday

January 4, 2018

An ambitious initiative by local MP Patrick Wainaina will see Primary School pupils in Thika Town served with boiled eggs.

The programme, dubbed ‘EggMonday’, will see each pupil enjoy a boiled egg every Monday morning beginning next week. According to the Thika Town MP, the programme is aimed at improving the general health of pupils and class attendance in schools.

The first time legislator added that the programme would be used as a source of income by parents as they would be encouraged to keep poultry in order to supply eggs to schools.

The MP said parents would benefit two-fold by getting an opportunity to sell eggs to schools and getting employed to cook for the pupils.

“It is my appeal to parents to start rearing chickens and become suppliers of eggs,” said Wainaina.

Wainaina said a programme to help improve the falling education standards in Thika constituency would be launched soon.

The MP, who is popularly known as Wainaina wa Jungle, surprised many when he defeated Alice Ng’ang’a of Jubilee in last year’s General Election.

Wainaina resigned from Jubilee on April 25 after the party nominations that declared Ms Ng’ang’a the winner. He disputed the outcome, terming it biased and unfair.

He went on to beat all odds to win the seat as an independent candidate in the Jubilee zone.
