Popular reggae disc jockey Kriss Darlin has raised an alarm on the safety of Dasani water, a product sold by beverage giant Coca-Cola.
Kriss Darlin, who runs the Dohty Family entertainment company, posted photos of a sealed bottle full of cloudy water on his social media pages explaining how he bought the water on Sunday.
“…so I bought DASANI WATER yesterday and when my daughter took it to drink she found out its NOT like normal water and its WHITE in colour…brought it to me and it’s had turned colour… thank GOD she didn’t take it… HOW SAFE is our WATER ???…..tag DASANI& COCA-COLA,” He wrote.
Apparently the water was clear at the time of purchase but mysteriously changed colour a day later.
The Kenya Bureau of Standards responded to the post asking Kriss Darlin to avail more details.
“Hallo, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Kindly inbox us with more details including the point of purchase and the batch numbers on the bottle. KEBS strives to protect the consumers from harmful products in the market.”
Dasani international also responded on Twitter asking the consumer to call their headquarters direct line.
Kriss Darlin however responded by stating that he could not understand why he had to make an international call as he was in Kenya.
Coca Cola has since issued a statement on the matter saying it had contacted him to get more information and resolve the matter.
“Coca-Cola has noted the complaint from a consumer who purchased a bottle of Dasani in a retail store in Nairobi yesterday. Our consumers are at the heart of everything we do and we assure our consumers that all our products go through stringent quality checks during our manufacturing processes,” stated the statement in part.
The company added that investigations had started to find out the retailer who distributed the product so as to establish what went wrong.
“We have been in contact with the consumer and have instituted investigations aimed at establishing facts relating to this incident and resolution of this incident,” stated the company.
