The Kenyan National Police Service has taken stern action against an individual who spread graphic images of dead soldiers on WhatsApp.
Mr Eddy Reuben Illah was charged in a Kiambu Court on Tuesday with posting on social media pictures allegedly showing the bodies of Kenya Defence Forces soldiers who were attacked and killed in Friday’s attack by Al-Shabaab militants in El-Adde, Somalia.
He was charged that on January 16, 2016 at an unknown place within Kenya, he distributed pictures allegedly showing dead KDF soldiers through a WhatsApp group called “Youth People’s Union”. The photos, as it turned out, were of Burundi soldiers.
Mr Eddy Reuben Illah denied sharing the images before Kiambu Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku.
Efforts by his lawyer, Mr Edwin Sifuna, to have him released on a free bond were futile. His lawyer had argued that the offence was not serious.
