National carrier Kenya Airways had the pleasure of transporting two famous lionesses to Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Sisters Maggie and Sonja were born in 2006 and spent the first eight years of their lives at a circus in Germany. Most of their time was spent in appalling conditions.
German authorities rescued them in 2013 before the Natuurhulpcentrum (a Belgian Centre for the rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals) stepped in and offered them temporary accommodation.
For the last one year, they have been at the centre undergoing rehabilitation and treatment for wounds they sustained while in the circus. This week they were taken to their new home in South Africa, and Kenya Airways facilitated that.
Here are some photos taken at JKIA.
