For ages now, interns in Kenya have grappled with peanut pay. Most receive nothing at the end of the month.
Despite this, they are given much more work than they signed up for. Other employees see them as helpers, and help they do.
It is now emerging that at the state broadcaster KBC, interns pay. Yes, instead of receiving some monthly allowance, KBC receives a monthly allowance.
Conflicting reports have it that all interns are expected to submit Sh 700 or Sh 1000 to the broadcaster at the end of every month.
It is still not clear what logic KBC uses to charge University students and fresh graduates for the experience they gain.
