Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki has sounded out a warning to anyone who tries to access security and government establishments across the country.
Speaking in a presser Thursday, CS Kindiki said such individuals will be dealt with ruthlessly. He also cautioned the public and opposition politicians against threatening officers on duty at government installations.
CS Kindiki gave an example of an incident where Opposition leader Raila Odinga tried to access the DCI headquarters on Tuesday, March 7 in support of the embattled former Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i.
“I direct all security agencies to ensure that our security facilities remain protected areas and should not be allowed to become a theatre for politics or rowdy and unlawful behaviour including unauthorised access,” Kindiki said.
He added: “Some politicians, ostensibly going to provide political solidarity to Dr Matiang’i, caused disturbances including threats to mobilise people to forcibly access the DCI headquarters.”
The CS talked tough saying, “Going forward, any person regardless of their rank in society who threatens to forcibly access security facilities or intimidate officers on duty will be dealt with firmly, ruthlessly and decisively in accordance with the law.”
The minister’s warning came after Raila Odinga on Thursday announced the start of mass action against President Wiliam Ruto and his administration.
“Fellow Kenyans, starting today, and now, we hereby declare the official start of countrywide mass action. We will be with you to the bitter end. It is action time, let us all come out where we are to make our voices heard and respected. And after we have done that, we shall finally converge in Nairobi. Take note, that on the 20th of March, 2023, we have a date with destiny in Nairobi,” Raila said
Azimio leaders in Kisumu are today(Friday, March 10) expected to march to the county commissioner’s office before taking to the streets.
