Residents of a village in Rarieda, Siaya County have been left in shock following the tragic death of an 11-year-old boy in an apparent suicide.
The body of Ibrahim Odhiambo Opiyo was found dangling from a tree in the compound of Kawamang’aria Anglican Church, situated 400 metres from Kawamang’aria Primary School where he was studying.
The school’s headteacher, Mrs. Everline Abong’o, said the body of the class four pupil, who was still dressed in school uniform, was discovered by a passer-by.
The school head, who described the boy as a jovial and humble pupil, said the pupil had left home for school only for him to be found dead several hours later.
She said the reason behind the suicide is still unclear as the pupil did not leave behind a suicide note.
The boy’s body was moved to Madiany Sub-county hospital mortuary as police kicked off investigations.
