National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has firmly ruled out any possibility of joining the Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP), dismissing the Rigathi Gachagua-led outfit as a small political party.
Speaking during an interview on Wednesday, August 12, the Kikuyu MP stressed that conviction, rather than political convenience, drives his decision-making.
“I can never, ever, over my dead body, join that small party (DCP). I take decisions based on conviction and not political convenience,” he stated.
Ichung’wah reiterated his belief in the current political setup, adding that he maintains a strong conviction that the broad-based government represents the best vehicle to move the country forward.
At the same time, the Majority Leader brushed off concerns regarding recent defections from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP party.
“There is no reason for anybody to get worried. It is that transfer season, just like in football. Irungu Kang’ata in seven days moved about three political formations; I don’t know where he will end up in one year. Badilisha was always on that side, and therefore it is no surprise,” Ichung’wah stated.
Expressing full confidence in their political strategy, the lawmaker insisted that the broad-based administration will secure victory in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
“We have a very solid formation in the broad-based government and are very confident that we will win the 2027 General Election,” he added.
