Gachagua Reveals What He Discussed With Peter Salasya at Wamunyoro

July 8, 2026

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua yesterday hosted Mumias East MP Peter Salasya at his Wamunyoro command center.

In a statement posted on his social media platforms on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader said he was pleased to host Salasya at his Wamunyoro residence. He described the MP as a committed young legislator with a promising future.

“I was very delighted to receive my good friend, Hon. Peter Salasya, MP for Mumias East Constituency, who called on me today at Wamunyoro Residence. Hon. Salasya, a young legislator, is a steadfast leader with a bright future,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua emphasized the need to mentor young leaders who stick to strong principles and hold a clear vision for the country so they can prepare for national leadership. He also praised Salasya’s wisdom and messaging, saying the young MP communicates with humor and wit. Gachagua added that Salasya made his day, leaving him joyful and “greatly enlightened.”

“The greatest resource our country has is our productive and young leaders. We must give them hope, a great country, and, especially, a great economy. Consultations continue,” Gachagua added.

The meeting follows days after the United Opposition rally in the Western region, where Salasya hosted opposition leaders at his Kisumu Ndogo home. He later took the leaders to his family home, where they also greeted his mother.

During the visit, Gachagua praised the MP and told Salasya’s mother that the lawmaker had been offered a bribe to vote in favor of his impeachment during the 2024 impeachment proceedings but had refused.

At the public rally, Gachagua said he had decided to mentor the young legislator and urged Mumias East constituents to protect his parliamentary seat as he develops for national leadership. He said he would walk with Salasya from county to county as part of the mentorship program, adding that he believes the MP is destined for national politics and remains “above county politics.”
