CS Murkomen made the remarks at Kaptilol Grounds in Kaptarakwa Ward, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, on Saturday. He said Gachagua poses a threat to national security and public order, and he added that security agencies will closely track Gachagua’s movements and activities.
Murkomen stated that his priority would remain on monitoring Gachagua “night and day” because he believes Gachagua creates danger as the father of violence. He added that Gachagua has stopped performing his duty of promoting peace and instead tries to instill fear by naming people and blackmailing them.
“Rigathi Gachagua, my business now until Kenya crosses 2027 safely is to monitor your activities in the Republic of Kenya. Hiyo kazi nitafanya usiku na mchana, you’re my single most point of focus because of the threat you’re posing as the father of violence,” Murkomen stated.
“Now that you’ve abrogated the duty of instilling fear and violence, naming Kenyans and blackmailing them, I want to tell you that we will deal with you firmly.”
The Interior CS also alleged that Gachagua has solicited money from political aspirants. He said Gachagua intimidated some of them and used the funds to organize criminal gangs, but he did not provide evidence for the claims.
“I know that you have been collecting money from potential aspirants, intimidating some of them, promising them certificates. We know the money you’re collecting; you’re using it to prepare goons. We will deal with you,” he claimed.
Murkomen also alleged that Gachagua has intimidated businesses that refused to fund his political plans.
The Interior CS said the government knows how Gachagua used “goons and criminals” in Mount Kenya and other areas. He also told Gachagua that security teams would track his movements every minute, saying he wanted to know who he met and where he went.
“You must know that we know all your activities, intimidating businesses that have refused to give you campaign money, and using goons and criminals in Mt Kenya and other parts. I want to tell you that we’re monitoring your activities every minute. Nikitoka hapa nataka kujua ulipitia wapi na watu wa gani unatembea nao,” he said.
Murkomen noted he would treat law-abiding citizens with care, but he would take a firm stance against people accused of plotting violence.
“I am a Christian. I’m a good-hearted man. When it comes to good citizens who are keeping the law, I will be as gentle as a dove. We will sing together. We will live together. We will laugh together. But when it comes to criminals and planners of violence like Rigathi, I will be very ruthless, and I have no apology to make,” he said.
In response to what he described as threats from Gachagua, Murkomen dismissed the remarks and said the government would act within the law.
“Sometimes I see him threatening me. Oh you will be taken to which court, to which court? Between me and Gachagua, who knows the law? I am not just a lawyer; I am a teacher of law. So please go and look for other people to threaten. We will deal with you perpendicularly, and that dealing with you will still be under the law,” he stated.
