Patients Affected as SHA Drops M.P. Shah Hospital From Panel

June 25, 2026

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has temporarily suspended M.P. Shah Hospital from its panel of contracted healthcare providers, effective June 23, 2026, pending the conclusion of ongoing investigations.

In a public notice released on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, SHA told beneficiaries and the general public that the suspension applies to services offered under several healthcare funds, including the Primary Healthcare Fund (PHCF), Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), Emergency, Chronic, and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF), and the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF).

SHA said that patients who were already admitted to M.P. Shah Hospital before the suspension took effect will continue receiving care until their current treatment episode ends and they are discharged.

The Authority added that during the suspension period, beneficiaries who need new admissions, follow-up treatment, or any other services should seek care at other healthcare facilities contracted by SHA.

In the notice, the authority said the current list of contracted facilities is available on its website and through the Afya Yangu platform.

SHA also said beneficiaries who need help with continuity of care or referrals can contact the authority using its toll-free number, 147.

The authority said the temporary suspension is intended to safeguard accountability and ensure beneficiaries continue to access quality healthcare while the investigations are ongoing.

The underfire health facility is being investigated over alleged billing irregularities and complaints. The probe centers on claims that the hospital may have required patients to make out-of-pocket payments for services that should have been fully covered under their Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) benefits.
