Ruto Promises 10,000-Seater Stadium and Ksh4.5B Markets for Kiambu

August 28, 2025

President William Ruto shifted his mobilization campaign to Kiambu County, where he assured the county of new development projects.

While addressing Kiambu grassroot leaders at State House, Nairobi, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Ruto reminded his administration of its determination to transform Kenya. He cited healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and job creation achievements since assuming power.

Ruto, in the meeting, announced plans to construct a 10,000-seater stadium in Thika Town. The pledge comes as Kenya is preparing to host the 2027 Confederation of African Football (CAF) African Cup of Nations, an event that requires contemporary roads and sports facilities in Nairobi and the neighboring counties.

“We are also breaking new ground in infrastructure and sports. A new 10,000-seater stadium will be constructed in Thika Town. We will also complete the 240-kilometre Mau Mau Roads and finalise the Northern Bypass, for which we have allocated Ksh20 billion,” Ruto said.

Ruto stressed that his administration’s pledges had moved beyond aspirations and were now materialising across the country. He assured Kenyans that the government remained committed to delivering affordable healthcare for all, even as concerns emerged over fund mismanagement at the Social Health Authority (SHA).

“Healthcare is no longer a privilege for the few who can afford it but a right guaranteed to every Kenyan. We are also digitising our health system to seal the loopholes that crippled NHIF, ensuring that the Social Health Authority delivers on its mandate. SHA must work, and it will work,” he said.

The President also highlighted efforts to boost trade and grassroots economies. He revealed that his government was embarking on “the largest market expansion in Kenyan history,” with more than 30 new modern markets worth Ksh4.5 billion being built in Kiambu County. According to him, the facilities will empower local entrepreneurs and drive economic growth at the grassroots level.

Infrastructure continues to be the prime focus of the government’s agenda for transformation. The President stated that a new stadium with a capacity of 10,000 will be built in Thika Town to create sport and youth talent, while major roadworks continue around the country. These include the 240-kilometre Mau Mau Roads and the Northern Bypass which has already mobilized Ksh20 billion to complete it.

Ruto acknowledged that the journey toward transformation has come with challenges but assured Kenyans of his administration’s resolve to deliver.

“We will not let this country down. The choices may be tough, but we remain unbowed. Kenya must be transformed,” he declared.
