
Police say the suspects had convinced more than 100 hopeful job-seekers that they could secure well-paid positions in Qatar. Each recruit allegedly paid a Ksh 2,400 “registration” fee before being told they would be bussed to Nairobi for processing.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations cornered the pair on Silver Line back-street as they collected cash from yet more applicants. The arrests came hours after dozens of furious victims camped outside Eldoret Central Police Station, demanding refunds and answers.
By Wednesday morning, investigators were recording statements from those affected and tracing how far the scam had spread. A senior officer, who spoke on background, said the probe would focus on whether the suspects had accomplices in other towns or links to past recruitment frauds.
For now, the two men remain in custody as detectives sift through phone records, payment receipts, and social-media adverts used to lure the youth.
