“Recall Koimburi” – Ichung’wah Rallies Juja Voters Over MP’s Staged Kidnap, Poor Representation

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has urged residents of Juja constituency to recall their Member of Parliament, George Koimburi, accusing him of failing in his duties and misleading the public with an alleged staged abduction.

Speaking during a National Assembly plenary session on Wednesday, May 28, Ichung’wah claimed Koimburi’s recent actions have betrayed the trust of the people who elected him, and that Juja constituents have the legal right to trigger a recall.

“I want to speak to the people of Juja; they are a great people who have been denied proper representation in this House. The people of Juja are suffering, and I have been there, and I know,” Ichung’wah said. “They must know they can recall a Member of Parliament who is not working for them, not representing them, or serving their interests.”

Ichung’wah’s comments come amid a growing controversy surrounding MP Koimburi, who is facing investigations for allegedly faking his own abduction to gain political sympathy.

The Majority Leader further called on National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to take disciplinary action against the embattled lawmaker, who is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Karen.

“I want to plead with you, Mr. Speaker, as the chairperson of the Powers and Privileges Committee,” Ichung’wah said. “Regardless of what the National Police Service, the Director of Public Prosecutions, or the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission decide, this committee must take up the matter involving Koimburi.”

The Kikuyu MP emphasized that public office comes with responsibility and urged parliament to lead by example in holding its members accountable.

Ichung’wah Slams Koimburi for Telling Juja Residents to Ask Ruto for Electricity

Ichung’wah also revealed fresh concerns about Koimburi’s dismissive treatment of his constituents. He recounted a recent incident where the MP allegedly told Juja residents to seek help from President Ruto after they raised concerns over electricity connectivity in their area.

“Right now, I’m addressing electricity issues in Juja, and the MP had the audacity to message residents in a WhatsApp group, telling them to ask Ruto for electricity because he left the government a long time ago,” Ichung’wah said.

He reminded Koimburi and all elected leaders that their obligation to serve their constituents remains, regardless of political alignments.

“Whether you are in government or not, you were elected to represent your people. When they ask for services, respond to them with dignity,” he added.

The storm surrounding Koimburi deepened after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Police Service poked holes in the MP’s abduction narrative. According to police, evidence suggests Koimburi coordinated the staged incident with close allies to stir political emotions.

Investigations revealed that Koimburi was not abducted, as he had claimed. Surveillance traced his movements from a church service to a hotel where he spent the night with two alleged accomplices. On the following day, he was reportedly driven to a location where he faked being dumped, even tearing his clothes to simulate a violent kidnapping.
