CS Murkomen offers better solution to gospel artiste asking for a car

April 18, 2023

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has responded to an upcoming musician who asked him to buy her a car.

Mercy Jerop, a gospel singer from Tinderet Constituency, shared a photo holding a placard with her plea to CS Murkomen on her social media.

Jerop indicated she needed a car to aid in her gospel ministry.

On Monday, April 17, CS Murkomen reached out to Jerop and later took to social media to reveal how he would help her.

The CS mentioned that a car would not necessarily be the ideal solution to Jerop’s plight. He said Mercy was a hairdresser whose business suffered a setback during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Mercy was a saloonist who, like many other entrepreneurs, suffered a major setback in 2020 because of (the pandemic). We have discussed how I can support the revival of her business.

“We have agreed that even though a car may be important for her ministry, it’s better to support a sustainable business that can finance her gospel ministry in the long run.  I congratulate Mercy for her service to God and mankind,” CS Murkomen tweeted.

Jerop, a 29-year-old mother of two confirmed that CS Murkomen called her Monday morning but did not divulge details of his offer.

She explained that she wanted a car because she had missed a number of live performances, tours, and a gospel seminar.

The singer said she has been relying on well-wishers for bus fare but it is barely enough.

“I appeal to all Kenyans to support me in spreading the gospel and I believe the CS will support me,” Mercy said.
