The Machakos Law Courts on Wednesday witnessed a bizarre spectacle when a woman accused of murder started bleating like a goat.
The suspect, Mary Mukulu Mbithi, was scheduled to appear before Justice Margaret Muigai to answer charges of killing her own daughter.
But before the court proceedings could begin, Mbithi started bleating outside the court’s premises, attracting stunned onlookers.
The Nation reports that Mbithi continued bleating for about an hour before she asked a woman to give her some soil to lick. She then reportedly stopped bleating.
“This is strange. I have never seen anything like this,” a witness told the publication.
When the hearing started, Mbithi did not show up forcing the Judge to issue a warrant of arrest against her.
Later in the afternoon, she lifted the arrest warrant after the accused’s husband asked the court for leniency so he could take the suspect to hospital.
He claimed Ms Mbithi was struggling with a mental health condition.
Court documents show that Mbithi strangled her daughter aged two on January 20, 2022. She has been out on a personal bond of Sh500,000
The hearing of the case was rescheduled to April 27.
